Laknavaram Lake, also known as Laknavaram Cheruvu, is set amidst the dense forest and huge green hills at a distance of about 75 Km from the city of Warangal in Telangana . History of Laknavaram Lake


The lake was discovered in an era of Kakatiya Dynasty. Kakatiyan rulers understood the importance of this place set amidst dense forest and huge hills lined up around to hold the rainwater at the same moment and built a small sluice gate, which turned the place into a huge lake. Since then the lake is responsible for irrigation of the area by providing water to thousands of acres of land.

Although the lake was built in the time period of Kakatiyan Dynasty, but the greatness of its architecture can be understood from the fact that all the tanks around this place have a means to move excess waters in to Ramappa Lake. The lake is spread over an area of 10000 sq km and is responsible for providing water to more than 50,000 acres of land. It stores rainwater to function properly. The lake is surrounded by the Etunagaram Sanctuary, which enhances its beauty more. Two prominent features of the geography of this lake are as follows:

Hugeness of the lake can be understood from the fact that it has 13 islands scattered amidst the dense forest. These islands enhance the beauty of this place and lakes it serene to watch and feel.

Hanging Bridge


Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has built a hanging bridge by connecting three islands in the area. This step of the government has turned this place in a major tourist attraction as more and more people are visiting the place now a days.

How to Reach at Laknavaram Lake


Laknavaram Lake is located at a distance of about 6 Km from the village of Govindaraopet in Mulugu district of Andhra Pradesh. If you are driving your own vehicle then, you need to take Etunagaram highway from Warangal, go straight past Mulug and Jangalapally. After 11 Kms past Jangalapally on the highway, take right turn and go straight for 7 Kms to reach at Laknavaram Lake. APTDC runs busses from Hanamkonda Bus Stand, Warangal to Laknavaram Lake.
